Iman Tahamtan is a Ph.D. Candidate in the School of Information Sciences, College of Communication and Information (CCI), at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK). He is currently a Graduate Research Assistant for Scholarly Communication in the Scholars' Collaborative at the University of Tennessee Libraries. He used to work as a Graduate Teaching Associate at CCI from August 2016-July 2019, where he taught Foundations of Information Technology (INSC 210) and Technologies for Information Retrieval (INSC 102).

He has been serving as the Communications Officer at SIG Health Informatics at the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) since November 2018. On July 2019 he was elected as the recipient of the New Leaders Award to serve in Chapter Assembly at ASIS&T for the year 2019-2020. 

His current research interests include scholarly communication, scientometrics/altmetrics, and consumers health informatics. He uses a variety of methodologies and techniques in his research including text mining, secondary data analysis, surveys, interviews, and mixed-methods. 

He has received several awards in recent years, including the ASIS&T New Leaders Award to serve in the Chapter Assembly for the year 2019-2020, the 2018 Graduate Student Research Award in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee, Outstanding Achievements in Research Contribution to the University of Tennessee in 2017, the 2019 CHIIR'19/SIGIR Student Travel Grants, Glasgow, Scotland, and the 2018 ASIS&T SIG-USE Student Travel Award, Vancouver. Canada.

The following two papers of him are among Highly Cited Papers in Social Sciences, according to Web of Science, which means they have "received enough citations to place them in the top 1% of the academic field": "Factors affecting number of citations: a comprehensive review of the literature" and "Core elements in the process of citing publications: Conceptual overview of the literature".

Iman has published more than 20 papers in the Journal of Informetrics (Elsevier), Scientometrics (Springer), Electronic library (Emerald), Health Information & Libraries Journal (Wiley), New Library World (Emerald), among others.
